Company Description

I’ve been a mom now for 6 years. My 2 amazing boys are promising musicians themselves, but now it is time for mom to get back into it herself! Performing in Roxi Dykstra’s Vivaldi concert 2 years ago was a superb re-introduction into the world of performing, and my wonderful experience with the Muheim primary choir these past few months has reminded me how rewarding working with children can be. Now it is time to “put my shingle out” again and hopefully work with some of the talented young artists here in the community one-on-one.
My philosophy on vocal training is pretty simple: learn the basics, learn them well, and you can go on to sing in whatever genre you want, be it jazz, musical theatre, pop or classical.
What are the basics? Breathing! (This is the big one!) We breathe properly when we are born, and we gradually seem to unlearn that as we get older. To sing properly, we must recapture that strength and freedom of breath that we were born with. Other basics include posture – how to use your body (your instrument) to get the most out of your voice, stage presence – how to behave on stage (and in the audience) so that people want to listen to your voice, diction – how to form your words so people understand what you are singing, and expression – learning to tell the story to your audience and include them in your experience.
I have a studio at the Central Park Building in Smithers (above the museum & art gallery). I like to begin with an “audition” which is basically a free consultation where I listen to you sing something (you pick) so I can develop a program for your training. The rest of April to June will be casual, ie: pay as you go. If you sign up for next year, October 2014 to May 2015, with post-dated cheques, I will give you 10% off your tuition. If there is more than one child in your family signed up with me, the second will also receive 10% off tuition. Message me for more information!
